Interesting and Surprising Weather Facts
Weather isn’t just clouds and rain. These facts really got my kids asking questions, and I bet yours will, too.
- The sky isn’t blue: It’s an illusion created by the way sunlight scatters through the atmosphere. The blue light waves are shorter, so they spread out more than the waves of other colors.
- Raindrops aren’t shaped like teardrops: They’re more like hamburger buns when they fall. It’s a fun detail to mention during weather crafts.
- You can sometimes smell the rain before it falls: That earthy scent comes from a compound called geosmin. It gets stirred up when rain hits dry soil.
