Different Types of Rainbows

Did you know? Rainbows can show up in various amazing forms, each with its own special characteristics and beauty! Here are some:

Double Rainbows

You might see two rainbows at once. This happens when light reflects twice inside the water droplets, making a second, fainter rainbow with colors in reverse order.

Full Circle Rainbows

Rainbows are actually full circles, but we usually see just a half because the ground blocks the bottom half. If you’re high up, like in an airplane, you might see a full circle!

Twinned Rainbows

Sometimes, you can spot “twinned” rainbows, where two separate rainbows appear next to each other. This occurs due to differences in the size and shape of the water droplets.

Lunar Rainbows

Rainbows can happen at night too! These are called Lunar Rainbows and appear when moonlight creates the rainbow effect.

These recommended books not only celebrate the magic of rainbows but also offer engaging narratives and vibrant illustrations that can captivate young readers! Here are some suggestions to complement your sensory bin activity.

How to make this rainbow sensory bin?

Setting up the rainbow sensory bin was such a fun and easy activity to do with the kids!

We started by filling a big container with colorful materials like rainbow rice. The kids were so excited to see all the bright colors and couldn’t wait to dive in and start exploring.

Adding little toys and objects in matching colors made the experience even more engaging. The kids loved using the tongs to sort and play with the items, and it was amazing to watch them get so creative.

To make this sensory bin even more fun, you can try some activities! One of their favorite activities was rolling the dice and then finding the matching number mini eraser using the magnifying glass.

This simple setup kept them busy and happy, making it a perfect activity for a rainy day or any time we wanted some fun, hands-on play.
