Rainbow Facts
What are the colors in the rainbow?
Most people know that there are seven colors in a rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. You can remember the colors using the acronym ROY G. BIV which is what always worked best for me when I was growing up and how I taught my kids.
How is a Rainbow formed?
A rainbow is formed when the sun shines on droplets of water in the sky. The water droplets act like a prism and split the sunlight into all of the colors of the rainbow. The light splits at different angles and reflects different colors of the light spectrum back to your eye.
Isn’t that neat?
Where can you see a Rainbow?
You can see a Rainbow whenever it rains, as long as there is sunlight. You can also find rainbows in the sky on cloudy days. Rainbows are often the most colorful just before and after a rain shower.
