What I love most about this sensory bin is how versatile it is. You can add small toys and scoops or even use them as a base for other activities. My kids ended up creating their own little world in the rice, and honestly, the quiet focus was a win for me, too. If you’ve never tried a sensory bin before, it’s worth a go. Fun Rainbow Facts
Rainbows are nature’s way of showing off their colorful magic. Here are some fun and simple rainbow facts that kids will love learning about:
- Rainbows Are Circles – We usually see only a half-circle because the ground blocks the rest, but from a plane, they look like full circles.
- No Same Rainbows – The angle of light and raindrops creates a unique rainbow for every viewer.
- Too Old! – Scientists believe they’ve existed since Earth had sunlight and rain, around a million years ago.
Why is it important to learn about rainbows?
Rainbows are such a magical part of nature, and they always seem to grab children’s attention. Teaching about them is an excellent way to show how light and water can create something so beautiful. It’s fun to explain how the colors appear and watch kids get excited when they see one in the sky. It’s like sharing a little piece of wonder with them!
I’ve found that learning about rainbows also makes kids more curious about the world around them. It opens up so many questions about weather, light, and color. It’s also a chance to slow down and notice the simple, amazing things in life.
That’s why I love teaching my kids about rainbows. They learn, but they’re also amazed, and that’s a special combination.

Benefits of Sensory Bins
Sensory bins are a fantastic way for kids to explore and learn without realizing it. When my kids get into a sensory bin, they’re not just having fun. They’re also developing essential skills like fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. I love how they use their tiny hands to scoop, pour, and sort.
I appreciate how sensory bins also encourage the kids’ imagination. When my kids are immersed in the bin, they start crafting their own stories and adventures.
Seeing them express themselves and let their creativity flow is heartwarming. Watching them collaborate and invent their games really shows how something so simple can lead to hours of fun.

How do we make this rainbow sensory activity?
Setting up the sensory bin was such a joy! I poured the vibrant rainbow rice into a big, shallow container. The kids’ eyes lit up excitedly when they saw those bright colors!
Next, I added fluffy cotton balls, which brought in some fun texture and made everything look even more inviting.
We sprinkled in gold and green plastic coins, along with beautiful butterfly gemstones and shiny acrylic gems. It felt like creating a little treasure trove right in our living room.
The kids immediately grabbed the mini white buckets, ready to scoop and fill them with all the colorful goodies.
Once everything was set up, they dove right in! They started sorting the gems by color and pretending the coins were hidden treasures. I loved hearing their imaginative stories as they made up games and scenarios.
One of my kids even used the cotton balls as “clouds” in their magical rainbow world! The creativity was flowing, and I enjoyed every moment of their exploration.
This was a fantastic way to keep the kids engaged while letting their imaginations run wild. It’s incredible how a simple setup can lead to hours of fun and creativity.
I can’t wait to see what other adventures my kids can create with this sensory bin.
