New Year’s Traditions From Around the World

As the old saying goes, “New year, new me.” People all over the world use the start of a new year as an opportunity to reflect on the past twelve months and set goals for the future. Some cultures have developed unique traditions to mark this occasion.

In America, many people swear off bad habits and make resolutions to improve their health or finances.

In Italy, it is customary to eat lentils at midnight on New Year’s Eve in order to ensure a prosperous year ahead. Germany has a similar tradition of eating pea soup with bacon on New Year’s Eve for good luck.

Asia has its own share of interesting customs, from attending temple services in Thailand to watching fireworks in Japan. China is perhaps best known for its New Year celebration, which includes dragon dances and the giving of red envelopes containing money.

These are just a few examples of the many different ways that people around the world celebrate the start of a new year. No matter what your tradition may be, one thing is certain: a fresh start always feels good. Here’s to a happy and healthy new year!
