Fun Facts About Fall
Most of us know about the leaves changing and pumpkin everything, but there are some lesser-known tidbits about autumn that are pretty fascinating.
- Autumn can make you feel sleepier. The shift in daylight affects our melatonin production, which explains why we might feel a little drowsier during the day.
- Fall has its own smell. The earthy scent we notice in autumn comes from dying plants releasing a chemical called geosmin, which humans can detect even in tiny amounts.
- Birds aren’t just flying south. Some species actually fly west or even change altitude rather than heading south, depending on their food sources and weather patterns.
