Homeschooling can be overwhelming in the beginning because of the huge selection of homeschool curriculum, but you have to remember to breathe. Take things slowly and don’t panic. You want to ensure that you’re covering your bases, but you know that you won’t have the time or money to do everything single thing that you’ve fallen in love with.

Now you’ll need to decide what is the best way to determine the best homeschool curriculum for your family.

How to choose the best homeschool curriculum?

There are many things to consider when learning about homeschooling. You can easily find answers to many of those questions here. 

Be certain to take time to read through some of the most common questions parents have about homeschooling. The thing about homeschooling is that you can read the answers to these questions, which also help guide you during this time. 

You’ll find a lot out after you start homeschooling your child as well, which will help guide you more towards your perfect homeschooling curriculum. Check out the questions and answers below. 

Does it match your child’s learning style?

Once you’ve discovered your child’s learning style, it’s important to find a curriculum that caters to or builds on their strengths. If you found a great history curriculum with audio CDs, your visual learner might not be so excited about it. You’ll want to ensure that you’ve also incorporated drawing or other activities to make it more appealing to your visual learner.

The great part about homeschooling is that there are a ton of awesome learning activities for all types of learners. This is one of the biggest things that drew me into homeschooling. My kids learn differently, and I needed something for that. 

Does it fit your budget?

A curriculum that requires you to save 3 months’ worth of money to be awesome. If you’ve dished out money on the curriculum you’re not using or that isn’t a right fit, it will leave a sour feeling in your homeschool if you force yourself to use it.

Make certain to take extra time here to research the benefits and costs. While there are free resources out there, there are some great ones that aren’t overly expensive as well. 

Will your child love it?

They may not love everything you do in your homeschool, but it’s a great idea to get your child involved in their homeschool planning. Ask them what topics they’d like to study and incorporate it into your school.

Their feedback will make the homeschooling process and transition so much easier! Take the time to ask them their thoughts and then make certain that you put those thoughts into action. 

Does it align with your goals for the year?

Well, yes, that awesome science curriculum is on sale, but is that what you were planning to teach this year? Do you mind having it sit on the shelf for a year? What are your goals for your child for this year, and what can you use to teach them? Is there a focus on literature, or perhaps you’d like to teach more independence? Will this allow that to happen? Ask these questions of yourself as you are planning your child’s year.

I talked about having a mission statement for the year, and this can really come in quite handy here! Knowing your goals as a homeschool parent and your daily mission should be important to you! Use this information to understand exactly what you’re searching for. 

Do you have time to use it?

Yes, I’d love to use all 3 of these wonderful studies but do you have enough time, you do need to sleep you know. You can plan the best curriculum you’d like, but there’s no use cramming it into a tight schedule because it will be tossed aside when time is limited.
