Fun and Surprising Summer Facts
Summer isn’t just for popsicles and pool days. Some cool things about the season even surprised me. These are fun to chat about while doing the worksheets.
- The Eiffel Tower grows in summer. When it’s hot, metal expands, allowing the tower to stretch about 6 inches taller during warm months.
- July is the month of ice cream. According to the International Dairy Foods Association, Americans eat the most ice cream in July, which is also National Ice Cream Month.
- The Earth is farthest from the sun in July. It seems backward, but the Northern Hemisphere’s summer happens when the Earth is actually farther from the sun because of its tilt.
Recommended Summer Books for Kids
A solid stack of summer-themed picture books makes the perfect complement to hands-on worksheets. I always keep a basket of seasonal reads nearby so the kids can grab one during quiet time.

- Watermelon Paper Plate Craft: This one is always a hit. It’s simple, colorful, and doesn’t require too many materials.
- Summer STEM Activities for Kindergarten: We keep it hands-on with easy science and engineering activities using things we already have around the house.
- Sidewalk Chalk Writing Activity: Practice their ABCs outdoors with this fun activity.
- Make Super Bubbles: Your kids will love making and using these bubbles this summer season.
My Favorite Summer Printable Packs
Printable packs save the day when I need a quick activity that doesn’t take prep work. These are my go-tos for summer learning fun that still feel easy.
What Skills Will Kids Practice?
I love using printables that cover several types of learning. These worksheets give your kindergartner a mix of writing, counting, and creative fun.
- Fine motor development: Cutting, tracing, and coloring all work those hand muscles and pencil grip.
- Early reading and vocabulary: Matching words to pictures and tracing helps build sight word familiarity.
- Math readiness: Counting objects and understanding patterns are foundational math concepts.
Recommended Summer Toys for Learning Through Play
Some toys do double duty, keeping kids entertained while reinforcing what they’ve learned. These are perfect for indoor afternoons or backyard fun.

Supplies You Need for these Printable Summer Activities
You don’t need much to make these worksheets work. Just grab a few basics and you’re good to go.
- Printer (I have this one)
- Paper
- Pencil
- Crayons
- Scissors
- Glue
I have the HP printer 8710, but it’s not available anymore. It’s been running well for years now. Look for another HP Instant Ink-ready printer so that you can use their program to send you ink cartridges whenever your printer gets low on ink.
What’s Included in the Summer Printable Pack?
Summer Vocabulary Match
This worksheet asks kids to trace seasonal words like “sun” and “beach,” then match them to pictures. My daughter loves getting creative and coloring in the images after matching them.
What Should I Wear?
In this activity, kids color clothing they’d wear during the summer months. It’s a good way to discuss weather and wardrobe choices while practicing coloring skills.
Summer Counting
Kids count summer-themed items like popsicles or sunglasses and circle the number that matches. This is a great way to sneak in number recognition without making it feel like a math lesson.
My Favorite Summer Activity
This page lets them draw a picture of their favorite summer activity. There’s also a tracing section that says, “I love summer!” which makes a sweet keepsake.
Summer Patterns
Cut and paste to complete each sequence using summer-themed images. We usually do this at the table, so I can help with the glue and my daughter can focus on figuring out the patterns.
