What happens in the heart?

The human heart is an incredible organ that pumps blood through your body by following a specific process.

To help kids understand this intricate process, start by explaining that the heart is constantly receiving signals from the brain to contract and pump oxygen-rich blood out of its chambers.

Once it’s been pumped out of the heart, the blood carries oxygen and nutrients to all of your organs while picking up carbon dioxide on its journey back. This cycle of contractions and relaxations continues until oxygen is delivered throughout your entire body.
