Fall Worksheets for Second Grade
Fall is hands-down one of my favorite times to slow things down and let learning reflect the seasons. That’s why I put together these Fall Worksheets for Second Grade. Need something quick to print and use without digging through drawers for craft supplies? This set fits right into your lessons.
If you’re collecting autumn-themed activities for your lesson plans, be sure to check out my list of Fun Fall Printables for Kids. I’ve tried to cover a good range of ages and subjects so you can pull from it each year as your kids grow.
Here’s what’s in the printable, what to grab before getting started, and why I bring seasonal topics into our lessons. If your second grader likes drawing, writing, or math, there’s something here to keep them busy and learning.

Fun Fall Facts for Kids
Fall is more than pumpkin spice and crunchy leaves. Here are a few facts I shared with my kids that caught their attention and turned into great conversations during lunch.
- Fall can affect your mood. Shorter days mean less sunlight, and that actually impacts how we feel. This led to a talk with my daughter about why we feel sleepier when it gets dark early.
- Trees don’t change color because it’s cold. The green fades away because the leaves stop making chlorophyll. My son thought it was because the trees were freezing, so this surprised him.
- Animals know fall means preparation. Squirrels start hiding food, and birds head south. My kids loved watching squirrels get extra busy in our backyard last October.
Favorite Fall Books for Read-Aloud Time
There are so many cozy picture books that pair beautifully with autumn activities. You may stack a few on the table and let your child pick one while you prepare lunch.

Why Should Kids Learn About Fall?
Learning about seasonal changes helps kids connect to the world outside the classroom.
- Teaches observation. Kids can connect what they see in nature with what they’re learning in lessons.
- Builds real-world context. Fall isn’t just a season; it brings changes in weather, clothing, and food.
- Encourages curiosity. Noticing seasonal shifts leads to great questions about science and animals.
More Fall Printables We Enjoyed
We like rotating through a mix of creative and skill-based printables each year. These were always on repeat during the fall months when my kids were in second and third grade.

Skills Kids Practice in This Fall Learning Pack for 2nd Grade
This printable works on real academic skills, too. Here are three things your second grader can work on while still having fun:
- Reading comprehension. Pages like “Picking Pumpkins” give short stories with questions. My daughter enjoyed these when she was younger because they were short and still felt like a story.
- Math review. The expanded form apple page sneaks in place value practice without feeling boring. It was a good way to mix math into themed weeks.
- Spelling and vocabulary. The “Spell the Fall Word” activity mixes pictures, context, and spelling. Great for visual learners and for reviewing seasonal words.
Recommended Fall Toys for Kids
Toys that tie into the season are always a hit in our home. I like having a few that build on what we’re learning or just bring in some autumn fun without needing to turn it into a full lesson.

What You’ll Need to Use These Fall-themed Worksheets
You probably have everything already, which is always a win.
- Printer (I have this one)
- Paper
- Pencil
- Crayons
I have the HP printer 8710, but it’s no longer available. It’s been running well for years now. Consider another HP Instant Ink-ready printer to take advantage of their program, which sends ink cartridges when your printer runs low.
What’s included in the fall printable pack?
Spell the Fall Word
This page helps with spelling and word recognition. Kids look at a picture and complete the sentence with the correct word, filling in the boxes.
Fall Clothing
Learners match fall clothing words to their pictures using a number key. This one was fun when my daughter was younger. We used it to talk about dressing for colder days.
Expanded Form
A math-focused page that lets kids break apart three-digit numbers into hundreds, tens, and ones. It uses apples to keep things on theme, which makes math feel more playful.
Picking Pumpkins
This is a reading comprehension sheet based on a short story about a trip to the pumpkin patch. There are five questions that help kids pull information straight from the story.
My Fall Tree
This one invites kids to draw and describe a fall tree. It was open-ended enough for creative expression and worked well as a quiet time activity when my daughter was younger.
