Fun Facts About Carnivals

I always find that adding a few cool facts makes an activity more interesting. These are some carnival facts I shared with my kids while we were coloring, and they were genuinely intrigued:

  • The earliest modern carnival-style events date back to the 1800s in Europe and spread quickly across the United States.
  • Ferris wheels were first introduced at the World’s Fair in Chicago in 1893 and were designed as a rival to the Eiffel Tower.
  • Some traveling carnivals used to carry their rides on trains to reach small towns across the country.

My Favorite Carnival Books That Are Worth Reading

I always recommend pairing books with hands-on activities. For example, I might read a fun story or a simple nonfiction book about carnivals alongside the coloring pages.

Supplies You’ll Need

I have the HP printer 8710, but it’s not available anymore. It’s been running well for years now. Look for another HP Instant Ink-ready printer so that you can use their program to send you ink cartridges whenever your printer gets low on ink.

What’s included in these free carnival coloring pages for summer?

Ferris Wheel with text “Carnival”

This page shows a classic Ferris wheel, which you’d spot from a mile away at any fairground. “Carnival” is written underneath in bold bubble letters, perfect for practicing color matching and letter recognition.

Carousel

This sheet features a detailed carousel with beautiful horses that kids can decorate. My daughter loved drawing patterns and adding bright colors to the horses’ manes.

Carnival Snacks and A Fun Ride

This was a favorite: the rotating swing ride with the text “Popcorn, ice cream, and fun!” The combination of fun foods and a fun ride made for some colorful results. The text added a chance for kids to read while coloring.

Carnival Games Scene – Basketball Hoops and Balloons

I loved using this one as a conversation starter. We talked about our last trip to a carnival and the silly prizes we tried to win.

Ticket Booth and a Roller Coaster Scene

This one is busy in a good way. There’s so much for kids to color and explore, and it gives a full view of what a carnival feels like.
