Surprising Facts About Canada Day

I’ve shared these fun facts with my older kids during snack time, and I even learned a few things along the way:

  • Canada Day wasn’t always called that. Initially, it was known as Dominion Day until it officially changed in 1982.
  • Fireworks aren’t the only tradition on July 1st. Many towns host pancake breakfasts, outdoor concerts, or citizenship ceremonies.
  • You can celebrate internationally. Canadian embassies and expat groups often hold their events abroad, from parades to backyard BBQs.

My Favorite Books to Celebrate Canada

For a fun read-aloud, I highly recommend picking up a few children’s books exploring Canada’s history and culture.

Fun Ways to Teach About Canada Day

You don’t need to plan an elaborate unit to make this holiday memorable.

  • Try themed worksheets. Canada Day worksheets are a no-fuss way to sneak in reading and logic practice.
  • Color your way through history. Coloring pages of Canadian landmarks or symbols give younger kids a fun visual connection.
  • Get outside with a scavenger hunt. Last year, we walked around our neighborhood looking for red and white decorations—it turned into a surprise geography lesson.

Skills Kids Can Learn from This Canada Day Printable Worksheets

I’ve watched my kids pick up new skills without realizing it—these worksheets work like magic.

There are a few themed toys I bring out for this holiday that add a hands-on element to the celebration. We have a Canada map puzzle for every age; it’s always a good geography lesson when we complete it.

You probably have everything already, but here’s a quick list to make things easy.

I have the HP printer 8710, but it’s not available anymore. It’s been running well for years now. Look for another HP Instant Ink-ready printer so that you can use their program to send you ink cartridges whenever your printer gets low on ink.
