Smart Ways to Entertain Preschoolers on the Road

Traveling with toddlers can get tricky. Here are a few go-to activities I pack to help us get through long hours in the car:

  • Window scavenger hunt: We take turns spotting colors, shapes, and animals outside the window.
  • Reusable sticker books: These are compact, and my kids love arranging scenes over and over.
  • Snacks with a twist: I portion snacks into a weekly pill organizer, which turns snack time into a fun sorting game.

Favorite Road Trip Books

Books are a must for our road trips. I usually bring a mix of board books and interactive stories that keep little hands and minds busy.

What Do I Need for a Long Road Trip?

Over time, I’ve learned that a successful road trip comes down to preparation. I make sure to have everything organized before we even leave the driveway. I bring extra clothes, a small blanket, and plenty of wipes, just in case something spills.

I also keep a small tote within reach filled with their favorite comfort items and a few surprises. I rotate activities so nothing gets boring too fast. Having a small stash of new or rarely used toys can work wonders.

We also need to build in stops because we can all go stir crazy in the car, and sometimes you just need fresh air and a break from the small confines of your car.

Recommended Preschool Printable Packs

Printable activities have saved me more times than I can count. These are great to prep ahead and pull out when your child starts to get antsy.
