Fascinating Facts About the Five Senses
We know the basics like taste, smell, touch, sight, and hearing. But there’s more to them than just body parts. The senses are deeply connected to how children understand and process the world. These facts might surprise you:
- Smell and memory are closely connected. The olfactory system is wired directly to the brain’s memory centers, which is why a single whiff of cinnamon might remind your child of grandma’s kitchen.
- Eyes don’t actually “see.” The brain does. Our eyes capture light, but it’s the brain that interprets shapes, colors, and movement. This is why sight activities are also brain-boosting.

What’s Included in the 5 Senses Printable Pack?
My Five Senses Trace and Color
Kids will trace the words for each of the five senses, such as sight, smell, touch, taste, and hearing. They’ll also color the matching pictures, offering a low-pressure way to introduce vocabulary visually.
Match the Senses
This worksheet asks children to draw lines between the sense organs and related objects. It’s a fun fine motor activity that also builds recognition of sensory function.
Color the Senses Chart
Kids will look at various everyday items and choose the correct sense (or senses) that apply. It’s a great conversation starter and works well during snack time or story breaks.
Trace the Sentences
Each line focuses on one of the five senses in a simple sentence like “I see with my eyes.” My daughter used to love reading them out loud as she traced, which helped reinforce sight words and sentence structure.
