Fascinating Volcano Facts for Kids

Volcanoes are more than just fiery mountains. They tell stories about the Earth’s surface and what lies beneath. These facts are perfect conversation starters when you’re going through the printable.

  • Some volcanoes are underwater. Most of Earth’s volcanoes are found in the ocean, forming islands and undersea mountains over time. These submarine volcanoes are just as mighty as those on land.
  • Volcanic ash helps soil grow excellent crops. After an eruption, the ash that settles can actually enrich the soil. That’s why regions around volcanoes often have incredibly fertile farmland.
  • Volcanoes can stay quiet for centuries. Dormant volcanoes haven’t erupted in a long time, but that doesn’t mean they won’t. Scientists study clues to predict if and when they might erupt again.

Supplies You Might Need for the Volcano Labeling Activity

You probably have most of these at home already, but here’s what I suggest keeping handy.

I have the HP printer 8710, but it’s not available anymore. It’s been running well for years now. Look for another HP Instant Ink-ready printer so that you can use their program to send you ink cartridges whenever your printer gets low on ink.
