How to Make Mermaid Slime

The biggest thing to remember when making slime is that there is a lot of stirring involved. Once you add the glue, you’re going to want to pay attention to the measurements and stir.

The combination of the glue and baking soda start to create that sticky paste and the eye solution is what makes it not stick to the hands.

Every time we make slime, the kids swear it’s like a magic trick! They’re amazing how it’s even a possibility that glue is the main ingredient to make slime when it’s so sticky!

As you can see, it’s fun to use the added mermaids to pose them in the slime. The kids can have fun making them look like they’re sitting in the slime or riding out the waves or other fun ideas and things, too.

They can also add in different fun ideas and thoughts that they have as well and really make it their own.

Why is my slime sticky?

This is where the stirring comes into play. If you don’t measure out the ingredients perfectly and stir the whole time, you just might find that you end up with a big messy mess. Don’t give up though – hope is not lost.

Instead of tossing the slime in the trash, try a few tricks to save your slime.

You can always squeeze in a tad bit of contact solution and stir each time to see if you can get that stickiness to go away. I’m not joking at all when I say that stirring and being patient is going to be key for this slime recipe because one second it could totally be a sticky mess and the next? Perfectly fine.

BUT BE CAREFUL. Because if you add in too much contact solution, the slime isn’t going to be stretchy at all. A tad bit goes a long way and this is why it’s important to mix and be patient.

How to store slime

I mentioned this above but the slime storage is super important. If your kids don’t store this in an airtight container or bag, it’s going to dry out and there isn’t going to be anything left to play with.

All you need to do is have a bag that you can seal or a lid that you can twist on. I’ve even used old slime containers that we had and that worked great, too.

Fun Ways to Change Up This Slime

If you’re not worried about making the slime look like water, you can change up the metallic glue that you use and get a different color. There are purple and pink and even green to choose from, all of which are super fun.

Don’t forget to share this slime recipe with family and friends. We’ve made this so many times and it’s seriously always a hit.

This can also be a great DIY gift for the kids to make and share with their friends. And having the kids help to make this slime recipe is a lot of fun as well! They’ll find that making slime isn’t all that hard and you’ll see their confidence shoot through the roof!

Have so much fun creating this simple slime recipe! It’s such a great activity for the kids to play with and use!
