Interesting Facts About the Ten Commandments
Even though most of us have heard the Ten Commandments for years, some things might surprise you:
- God Himself wrote them. Unlike most parts of the Bible, the Ten Commandments were written by God on tablets, which makes them incredibly unique in Scripture.
- The commandments cover our relationship with God and with people. The first few commandments focus on how we relate to God, while the rest help guide our behavior with others—an important distinction I talked through with my kids.
- They’re repeated in more than one place. While most people know about the version in Exodus, they’re also listed in Deuteronomy, reinforcing their importance.
Bible Books I Recommend for Kids
To make Bible reading more relatable and engaging for young learners, I always look for Bibles that use age-appropriate language and vibrant visuals.

Why is it important for children to learn about the Ten Commandments?
Starting early with biblical principles helps shape how kids understand right from wrong. Here’s why these teachings matter:
- They build a moral foundation. Kids can begin to form a basic understanding of ethical behavior, even before they’re reading fluently.
- They’re easy to remember. Children can start internalizing these teachings with clear wording and repeated exposure.
- They guide behavior at home and with peers. Talking through these commandments has helped us manage sibling disagreements more peacefully.
