Fun Skeletal System Facts
The skeletal system is what holds our bodies together and helps us move. It’s amazing how much we rely on our bones every day, and there are some pretty cool things to learn about them:
- Smallest Bone – The tiniest bone in your body is in your ear, called the stapes, and it’s smaller than a grain of rice!
- Too Many Bones – Half of your actual bones are in your hands and feet, about 54 in total!
- Longest Bone – Your thigh bone, the femur, is the longest and strongest bone in your body.
- New Me! – Bones are constantly renewing themselves, with the skeleton being hcompletely replaced every 10 years!

How to make a skeleton sensory bin?
Creating the skeleton sensory bin with my kids was such a fun experience!
We began by using mini pom poms as the base, spreading them across the plastic tub to create a colorful and fluffy layer.
The pom poms provided a fun texture for the kids to explore, and they loved diving their hands into the soft, squishy material.
We added mini skulls and foam bones, which turned the sensory bin into a mini excavation site. My kids had a blast searching through the pom poms to find and identify the different bones and skulls.
The Halloween mini buckets were also used for collecting and sorting their finds, making the activity both fun and organized.
The sensory bin not only provided hours of entertainment but also sparked plenty of creativity.
It was a great way for us to bond and explore the bones that make up your body together!
