These Printable Road Trip Coloring Pages are exactly what we bring along to make the drive smoother and a lot more fun.
If you’re building your stash of summer homeschool printables and ideas, make sure you check out my Summer Worksheets for Kids. That’s where I keep all my favorite warm-weather resources in one spot.

Fun Road Trip Facts Your Kids Will Love
There’s more to road trips than just scenery and snacks. Here are a few quirky facts that make travel time even more interesting:
- The first cross-country car journey in the U.S. was in 1903. Horatio Nelson Jackson took on the challenge of driving from San Francisco to New York in a Winton touring car- at a time when roads were barely marked and navigation was pure guesswork.
- There’s a tree in Oregon you can actually drive through. The Chandelier Tree is a redwood that’s over 275 feet tall and has a tunnel carved through it, just big enough for a car.
- Some highways play music. On parts of Route 66 in New Mexico, grooves in the pavement play “America the Beautiful” when you drive over them at the right speed.

Benefits of Coloring for Kids
Coloring is a favorite in our home and one of the easiest activities to pack. It’s a quiet, mess-free way to keep kids focused while we drive.
- Promotes relaxation. Coloring has a calming effect, especially on long drives where everyone needs a break from screen time.
- Encourages creativity. Kids can get imaginative with colors, blending their favorite shades into their pictures.
- Develops fine motor skills. Those small movements with crayons or pencils help strengthen their hand muscles and coordination.
- Easy to bring anywhere. Just a few crayons and a clipboard make this activity totally portable and road trip-ready.

These pages are more than just busywork. While having fun, your kids are also learning a few things along the way:
- Visual discrimination. Choosing and matching colors to specific items on the page helps them pay attention to detail.
- Following directions. Activities like “Pack My Suitcase” or the scavenger hunt encourage them to follow simple instructions.

Supplies You’ll Need for these Travel-themed Coloring Pages
These pages are print-and-go, but here’s what I like to have on hand to make the most of them:
- Printer (I have this one)
- Paper
- Pencil
- Crayons or Colored pencils
- Clipboard or lap desk
- Zip pouch for keeping supplies together
I have the HP printer 8710, but it’s not available anymore. It’s been running well for years now. Look for another HP Instant Ink-ready printer so that you can use their program to send you ink cartridges whenever your printer gets low on ink.
What’s Included in the Road Trip Coloring Sheets?
Road Trip Title Page
This one’s the cover-style page that sets the theme. It has images of a car, a camera, a map, and a suitcase to get kids in the travel mood.
Car on the Road Scene
My kids love this one for imagining where the car might be going. It’s a scenic road lined with trees and signs that can come to life with color.
Pack My Suitcase
This page gives kids a collection of travel items to choose from. They get to color the things they’d take along and leave out the ones they wouldn’t.
Road Trip Scavenger Hunt
This is a favorite during longer drives. Kids color each picture like a bird, barn, airplane, or boat when they spot them out the window.
Safety Road Signs
This page is both entertaining and educational. Kids color common road signs, which helps them learn what each one means before they even start driving.
