We used the “Living In…” series from Ready-to-Read to learn about Russia. Ready-to-Read books touch on all different topics, such as exciting nonfiction, beloved characters, and fan favorites! Help your child learn to read with these fun readers.

We learned that Russia is the biggest country in the world, and it spans 11 time zones because it is so large. Siberia makes up three-quarters of the land in Russia, while only 27% of the population lives there.

We learned what a child’s day would be like in Russia and the food they’d eat. They go through the capital city and large landmarks.

Living in... Russia books for kids

The book talked about Peter the Great and what he did for Russia. The book was easy to digest for a child and gave them enough information to answer the comprehension questions at the end of each book, but not too detailed to overwhelm them.

The Ready-to-Read books are leveled so you can see what reading level is appropriate for your child.

The three books I had were levels 2 and 3. You can see a marked difference in the Level 3 books as they become more detailed, and the sentence structure and length of the book increase and become more difficult.

Recommended Printing Supplies

I have the HP printer 8710 but it’s not available anymore. It’s still running well for years now. Look for another HP Instant Ink-ready printer so that you can use their program to send you ink cartridges whenever your printer gets low on ink.

Things to research about each country

  • Find the country on the map: What continent is it on? What oceans are near it? What countries are its neighbors?
  • Draw the country’s flag, find the capital city, and learn about its national language, government, and religion.
  • What are the famous landmarks that would be seen by tourists? See if you can visit them through Google Maps.
  • What type of clothes do local people wear and what are their favorite foods? See if you can make a recipe from another country.
  • Watch a documentary where you can see the different cultures in that country. My kids love these!

There are so many things to learn about new countries, the people, places, and traditions that take place can differ greatly from ours.
