What are the main parts of a plant and their functions?

Plants are amazing – their structures enable them to absorb nutrients, produce energy through photosynthesis, and provide us with a plethora of tasty fruits and vegetables! The main parts of a plant include the root system, stem, leaves, flowers, and fruit.

Roots

The root system anchors the plant to the ground and absorbs water and minerals from the soil.

Stem

The stem transports water, minerals, and sugars throughout the plant while also providing support to keep it upright.

Leaves

Leaves make up the majority of a plant’s photosynthetic surface area; they are responsible for converting sunlight into energy via chlorophyll in their cells.

Flowers

Flowers house the reproductive organs of a plant that produce seeds or fruits.

Fruits

Fruits contain the seeds within themselves which allows for dispersal and reproduction when eaten or carried away by animals.

Ultimately, each part of a plant has an important role that helps in keeping life on Earth going!
