Who’s ready to learn about ocean animals? These ocean animals food chain printables will help you understand more about these amazing creatures.

If you love these, you’ll enjoy my other ocean worksheets for kids. You can’t ever have too many topics all about the ocean!

My son is a huge ocean fan, we’ve watched numerous documentaries and Youtube videos about his favorite animal, the killer whale.

We all know that the ocean food chain is not simply one so I picked out some of my son’s favorite animals to narrow things down and we went from there.

It was fun researching the animal’s diet with this exercise and my son was very enthusiastic about helping me. He also remembered a lot of information that I forgot as well.

We always tend to learn about things together in our house so it’s fun diving into these topics together.

Ocean Animals Food Chain Printables

We started with the Killer whale and looked at its diet. They eat penguins, seals, and fish. However, when I went to look for images to print, there were so many and I wanted to be correct so we focused on antarctic penguins, the emperor penguins, and leopard seals.

Since we were discussing the Antarctic, then we picked an Arctic predator and landed on the polar bear.

The polar bear eats seals or beluga whales and more but for the purposes of our exercise, we focused on the main ones. So from the top predator, we went all the way down to the base of the food chain, phytoplankton.

I created cards for each of the animals so they could be printed out with the names of if you wanted to you could print out another copy and cut out the names and match them up that way. But the idea is to match the prey to the predator and see if you kids can create a visual representation of the ocean animals food chain.

I created cards that were 9 to a page and 4 to page and the first page includes the entire food chain that we came up with so you have the answers right there. You can go over it with your kids prior to using the cards or you can just let them at it and see if they can figure it out.

Ideas to Extend Ocean Learning Activities

Just because your kids might get done with this printable doesn’t mean that you have to stop with the learning lessons. There are so many ways that you can easily extend the learning lessons for the kids!

One of my favorite ways to make this happen is to have the kids dive into books. I tend to buy a lot of books but the library offers great resources, too. If you’re able to get your hands on books that have a great mixture of facts and stories, the kids will have so much fun diving in and reading all the words on the pages. And if they can’t read, no worries. This is the perfect time for them to still explore pictures and focus on identifying letters, too.

Another great way for the kids to learn is to have them draw out their thoughts. The more that they can talk about what interests them when it comes to a different topic, the more that they’re going to want to learn. They can work on drawing, writing out letters, and anything else that uses their mind and creative skills.

Having fun ocean-themed toys and games can be a great way to help them learn as well. This is the perfect scenario for the kids to use their toys in a way that helps shape their minds and imagination, too. If they have stuffed animals or puppets have them put on a puppet show to see what it’s all about it. You can sit in the audience and be one of their biggest fans!

Don’t forget that you can easily help out the kids with fun learning activities by asking them what they want to learn. A trip to the beach might be in order or just snuggling up on the couch and watching a documentary as well. You’ll be amazed by what they want and can learn if you just stop and ask them what they’re thinking! They’ll more than likely have something on their minds that they’re eager and excited to share with you!

Brainstorming is one of the best ways to come together as a family and think of fun and cool new learning activities that everyone can enjoy. It involves the kids in the process which is such a neat and fun experience.
