Interesting Facts About Leaves

Leaves aren’t only colorful, they’re full of interesting details. Share these with your kids while you do leaf-themed activities.

  • Leaves make food for trees: Through photosynthesis, leaves use sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to create food. This energy keeps the tree growing strong.
  • Leaf color changes are a sign of preparation: As daylight shortens, chlorophyll breaks down and the natural reds, oranges, and yellows appear. That’s how we get the fall colors we love.
  • Not all trees lose their leaves: Evergreen trees like pines and firs keep their greenery all year. Their leaves are built to handle cold and snow.

Reading together is a cozy way to learn about the season. I recommend choosing books that explore leaf changes, textures, and shapes to keep kids curious.
