Isn’t the human body amazing? Anytime I’m talking to my kids about parts of the reproductive system, I always find myself coming back to these worksheets. They’re the perfect way to show the kids the visuals and have a conversation with them about the topic simultaneously.

If your kids are at that age where it’s time to start discussing, these worksheets can be a great addition and a way to tackle the subjects. Going about it in a mature way that talks about the actual body part names is an educational way to start and make it happen.

We’ve had a lot of great conversations, and I was able to answer real questions from the kids that they have about this topic, too. I’d much rather they come to me with questions than ask their friends or try to research something online.

Fun Facts About the Reproductive System for Kids

Here are three fun facts about the reproductive system for kids:

  1. Girls Are Born with All Their Eggs: Unlike boys, who start making sperm during puberty, baby girls are born with all the eggs they will ever have—about 1 to 2 million.
  2. Sperm Are Super Fast Swimmers: Once released, sperm can swim about 5 millimeters per second, which is super speedy considering their tiny size.
  3. The Uterus Can Stretch Really Big: A woman’s uterus is about the size of a pear, but during pregnancy, it can stretch to the size of a watermelon to hold a growing baby.

The reproductive system is full of amazing surprises.

You can easily use these sheets to talk about it with your child or take a different approach that works best for you.

When do kids learn about the reproductive system?

This depends on the dynamic of your family, but after a bit of research, it seems like the average age at which this topic tends to come up is around 8 years old.

Again, this can vary for your family and your child, but this age is one that they’re interested in learning and reading, and they might absorb the information quickly.

How do you explain reproduction to a 6-year-old?

This can be difficult to discuss with your child, no matter how old they are. And age really is essential when having this number.

It’s no secret that kids become curious about parts of the body and how babies are made early in life, so it can be helpful to talk about the human body in factual terms as well.
