Fun Chicken Facts for Kids

Learning about chickens goes beyond just clucks and feathers. Here are a few interesting facts that surprised even me:

  • Chickens have a unique way of bathing—they clean themselves by dust bathing, which helps keep parasites away.
  • They dream when they sleep, just like humans.
  • Hens “talk” to their chicks before they even hatch by making soft clucking sounds.

Recommended Chicken Books

If you want to add more depth to your lessons, some beautifully illustrated and informative chicken books are available. My kids have loved flipping through them during quiet reading time.

What skills can kids learn from this printable?

This set of worksheets supports many skills while keeping kids engaged through meaningful content.

  • Reading Comprehension: Kids read informational text and respond to questions that test understanding and recall.
  • Vocabulary Development: With the crossword and matching activities, children are introduced to and practice using farm-themed words.
  • Scientific Thinking: Through labeling, sequencing, and drawing the chicken life cycle, kids build early science skills by organizing and interpreting information.

Here are some helpful materials to have on hand before starting these activities:

I have the HP printer 8710, but it’s not available anymore. It’s been running well for years now. Look for another HP Instant Ink-ready printer so that you can use their program to send you ink cartridges whenever your printer gets low on ink.
