Young Learners Science Club

These Winter Games Color By Addition Worksheets are a great addition to the holiday season! Not only that, the children will love learning and coloring simultaneously!

We love winter-themed printables. You can view additional printables in my winter printables for kids collection.

Turn the winter games into a learning opportunity with these adorable coloring pages. Who isn’t enjoying the games? We loved the different competitions, and we stayed up late with the kids watching figure skating.

It’s been a fun week, and given how short it’s been, I hope everyone is making the most of it. Here are some color-by-addition worksheets to elevate your regular color sheets.

Coloring pages aren’t as fun as they used to be as kids get older, so why not merge them with math and make math more fun?

Why kids need to learn about the winter games

Studying winter games helps kids connect math practice with familiar traditions. It also encourages them to appreciate worldwide events.

  • History exposure: Provides students with a brief introduction to global competitions and how athletes train for their events.
  • Cultural awareness: Opens up conversations about countries, traditions, and the community spirit around large events.
  • Real-world connection: Shows how sports rely on numbers, timing, scoring, and measurement.

Recommended winter game books

I keep a small group of winter game-themed books nearby during this season, and they’ve always been a nice companion to simple worksheets.

Skills kids can learn from this winter printable

These pages combine art and math, making them a useful rotation activity for early elementary students.

  • Addition practice: Each section requires kids to solve short equations, which builds confidence and accuracy. My older kids used to enjoy coloring pages like these when they were younger because it made math feel relaxed.
  • Color recognition: Kids match numerical answers with specific colors, helping them remember instructions and stay organized.
  • Fine motor work: Coloring within smaller spaces supports pencil control, which later showed up in my younger kids’ handwriting progress.

Recommended winter printable packs

If you want more seasonal math activities, these printable packs are well-suited to winter-themed lessons. They also offer a smooth follow-up to the addition sheets.

Winter Math Printable Supplies

You only need a few items to get started, keeping setup quick.

  • Printer (I have this one)
  • Paper
  • Crayons or colored pencils
  • A pencil for solving equations
  • Optional clipboard for worksheet time

I have an HP 8710 printer, but it’s no longer available. It’s been running well for years now. Consider another HP Instant Ink-ready printer so that you can use their program to send you ink cartridges whenever your printer gets low on ink.

During the colder months, I like keeping a few winter puzzles and card or board games available. These have always given my kids a break from screens while still connecting to seasonal topics.

Using the Winter Games Coloring Worksheets

What I love about these coloring sheets is that they’re really easy for early learners to use. Even when they’re just learning to count, they can use these worksheets to build counting confidence.

And using them is simple. All they need to do is answer the addition questions to determine the color to use for the item. It elevates coloring pages and is a hit with my son, who hates plain coloring pages. They start off easy and get more difficult.

This is a great way for them to learn and grow their math skills. And don’t be afraid to have them use them again. Because, as we all know with math, the more you see the numbers and use them, the more familiar you get with them as well.

What’s included in the winter coloring pages?

These worksheets include five pages designed for early math practice. Each page features a different winter games scene paired with addition problems.

Bobsled coloring page

This page shows two riders in a bobsled on a snowy mountain. Kids solve simple addition facts that lead them through the major sections of the sled and background.

Cross-country skier page

A skier with poles and gear fills this page with a mix of medium-sized and narrow coloring areas. Kids answer the equations and shade the hat, skis, coat, and surroundings accordingly.

Winter athlete standing page

This page shows a bundled athlete standing upright, ready for cooler-weather events. The addition problems are spread across the outfit, boots, and outerwear to keep kids working steadily.

Ski jumper page

A ski jumper in mid movement appears here, holding long skis. Kids color gear pieces and the background by solving a new set of addition facts.

Figure skater page

The final sheet displays a cheerful figure skater with outstretched arms. The equations guide kids across the dress, skates, and accessories.

How to extend the activity

To extend this activity, read your favorite winter Olympic books and learn more about why the Olympics exist. My son has become more interested in Geography as we look up which countries the winners have come from.

We discussed the first Olympics and the summer Olympics as well. My son has enjoyed watching snowboarding and skiing so far.

If you want to extend learning time, these ideas pair well with the worksheet pack.

  • Winter counting mats: These work well for kids who need extra number practice. They also align with the winter theme, which helps maintain interest.
  • Winter STEM activities: These projects are hands-on and offer an opportunity to connect science to seasonal topics. My older kids enjoyed these types of tasks when they were in elementary school because they provided an active component.
  • Outdoor texture hunt: Have kids gather small natural items and sort them into categories. This maintains the winter theme while also developing observation skills.
  • Storytelling time: Ask kids to create a short story about their favorite winter event. It gives them a reflective moment after finishing the coloring pages.
