Fun Facts About St. Patrick’s Day
Here are a few fun facts about St. Patrick’s Day that I love discussing with my kids during our lessons. These little tidbits always make them curious and excited to learn more about the holiday.
- St. Patrick wasn’t actually Irish. He was born in Britain and was taken to Ireland as a teenager. Later, he returned as a missionary and became the patron saint of Ireland.
- The shamrock is a symbol of the holiday. It is said that St. Patrick used the three-leaf clover to teach people about the concept of the Holy Trinity.
- There are no snakes in Ireland. A popular legend claims that St. Patrick drove all the snakes out of Ireland, but in reality, the country never had snakes due to its climate and geography.
