Fun and Uncommon Snake Facts
Snakes are way more than what meets the eye. Here are a few facts that blew me away when we started our reptile mini unit:
- Snakes smell with their tongues. They use their tongues to collect scent particles from the air and then “read” them with a special organ in their mouth.
- Some snakes can fly… sort of. Tree snakes in Southeast Asia flatten their bodies and glide from tree to tree, steering with their ribs.
- They never blink. Snakes don’t have eyelids, just a clear scale over each eye. That means their stare is permanent, which can be pretty intense for a toddler!
My Favorite Snake Toys Kids Will Love
Adding a few hands-on toys made our snake lessons even more interactive and gave the kids something fun to play with while we read and learned.
