Fun Facts About the Skeletal System
The skeletal system is one of the most fascinating parts of the human body. Here are some fun facts about the skeletal system for kids:
- The human skeleton is made up of 206 bones. The bones are constantly renewing themselves, with old bone being broken down and new bone being created.
- The longest bone in the human body is the femur, or thighbone. The smallest bone is the stapes, one of the three bones in the middle ear.
- Babies are born with almost 300 bones, but many of these fuse together as they grow older.
- The hardest substance in the human body is tooth enamel. Bone is actually quite flexible and can even mend itself if it breaks.
