Only a small fraction of baby sea turtles make it to adulthood and everyone loves watching them climb out of their nests to find the big ocean.
They have to avoid birds and other predators as they get pulled out to the open ocean. They love eating seaweed and jellyfish, who wouldn’t love sea turtles?
We love to learn all about the different types of animals that there are in the world and studying turtles is one of our favorites!

Stages of a sea turtle life cycle
Egg
A mother sea turtle will travel back to the beaches where she was born to lay her eggs. She digs a hole in the beach an buries her eggs and then she returns to the ocean.
Hatchling
The sea turtle eggs take 2 months to hatch, if they are not eaten. Once the sea turtle hatches out of the egg, it must return to the ocean. While it is on the beach it is the most vulnerable to seabirds, crabs, dogs or raccoons as garbage accumulates in nesting areas. Once the hatchling reaches the ocean, they spend their time in open waters and stay amongst sargassum seaweed since they provide cover for protection for up to a decade.
Juvenile
Juvenile sea turtles return to coastal waters at this time to forage and continue to grow.
Adult
As adults, sea turtles will return to their nesting grounds to mate. Females will go ashore to lay their eggs on the beach.
