Printable Constellation Lacing Cards

The kids are going to have so much fun with these Printable Constellation Lacing Cards. Easy and simple to do, plus it helps them learn the names and visuals of the constellations, too.

We love any and all types of space activities for kids in our house but these lacing cards are some of the best. The kids always get a kick out of being able to work on them and create beautiful creations as well. There might be a time or two that we’ve made up our own constellations and that’s totally fine as well!

Because when that happens, we get to use our imagination and the kids get to have a blast creating brand new constellations that no one has ever heard of.

One of the biggest reasons that these lacing cards are so much fun is because the kids can easily do them all by themselves. They’ll love having that option to be creative and independent all at the same time.

And just when they get the hang of one, they’re going to be geared up and ready to get started on the other one as well. This is one fun fine motor activity for kids that they’re never going to get tired of.

We’ve been doing lacing activities for years in our house and this is one of their favorite. I have to admit that I’ll even join in on the fun as well because I love constellations and learning more about them, too.

What are the 7 major constellations?

There are 7 major constellations that most people know about. Those are:

  1. Leo
  2. Canis Major
  3. Aries
  4. Aquila
  5. Cassiopeia
  6. Cygnus
  7. Gemini
  8. Aquarius

How many constellations are there currently?

Last I knew, there were 88 different constellations that were named or at least recognized! That’s a ton! Just think that if you were to go outside at night and look up into the sky, you might be able to see a wide range easily.

It’s fun to have the kids go outside and count how many they can see. Where we are, it’s fairly simple to see the Big Dipper and the Little Dipper most often.

What are the 3 stars in a line called?

This is known as Orion’s Belt. My kids are REALLY good at finding this one and are always so excited to talk about it when they do.

What is the easiest constellation to find?

I think my children would agree with this answer. The Little Dipper is the easiest to find – and I find this to be true as well! It seems to always be visible in the night sky!

The kids and I love to go outside and peek up in the sky to see what we can see! There are more times than not that we’ve been able to see the Little Dipper in just a few seconds of time!

I should start keeping a log of how many nights out of the year that we’re actually able to spot and see the Little Dipper just for a fun point of reference.

Fun Ways To Learn More About Constellations

To be honest, we have way more constellations than I knew about. Like way more. But don’t tell the kids – they think that I know everything and I’d like to keep it that way for as long as possible.

If you’re excited about the kids learning about this fun idea and activity, why not take it a step further and do more constellation activities?

One of our favorite things is to head outside on a nice cold night or a warm summer eve and take a look up at the sky. As long as it’s clear, you can easily see for miles up in the air it seems and you’ll be amazed at all the stars and constellations that you’ll see. Talk to the kid about what ones they can identify.

You can even take out a piece of paper and have the kids draw them out as well.

Are constellations important?

They are. Not only are they fun to look at but they serve a great purpose, too. They’re helpful to the scientists to be able to see things and recognize characteristics and other stars and possibly even planets in the sky.

Do constellations change?

They actually do which makes them that much more interesting. This isn’t going to be a sudden change but a gradual one over time. More than likely, it’ll be such a slow change that the majority of people won’t even notice.

I also wonder that if the chance is so small, will it even make a difference? More than likely, the change won’t affect the look of the constellation as it’s probably not shifting or changing that often.
