Why kids should learn about the Nativity Story?
Teaching children about the nativity helps them understand the true meaning of Christmas beyond the presents and decorations. It’s a valuable way to help them see love, kindness, and faith in action.
- Understanding the Story of Jesus’ Birth: Kids learn where the Christmas celebration originated and why it holds significance.
- Building Faith-Based Knowledge: It’s a great opportunity to teach about Mary, Joseph, and the events in Bethlehem.
- Connecting Traditions with Meaning: Helps them link family traditions to the story of Jesus, making Christmas more personal.

These coloring sheets offer more than just quiet time. They help students practice important skills while learning about the nativity.
- Fine Motor Control: Coloring within lines strengthens hand muscles and coordination, which is important for handwriting and early writing skills.
- Reading Comprehension: Each page includes a short line of text related to the nativity story, helping children connect words with visuals.
- Story Sequencing: As they color through the pages, kids can recall the order of events in the nativity story.

Supplies You’ll Need for the Nativity Coloring Pages
You don’t need much to get started. Just a few simple supplies and a little creativity will do.
- Printer (I have this one)
- Paper
- Crayons/Colored pencils
I have the HP printer 8710, but it’s no longer available. It’s been running well for years now. Consider another HP Instant Ink-ready printer so that you can use their program to send you ink cartridges whenever your printer gets low on ink.

What’s Included in the Christmas Nativity Coloring Pages?
This printable set consists of five pages, designed for early elementary grades. Each page helps kids explore part of the nativity story through coloring and short, simple text.
Nativity Scene
A simple illustration showing Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus in the manger. It’s the perfect page to introduce the story and discuss the significance of Jesus’ birth.
Mary and Joseph’s Journey
This page shows Mary and Joseph traveling to Bethlehem. When my kids were younger, we talked about what it might have been like for them to find shelter and rest.
The Birth of Jesus
Children can color Mary holding baby Jesus with Joseph beside her. This is a wonderful page for reflection and discussion about the humble setting of His birth.
The Angel and the Shepherds
This page shows the angel sharing the good news with the shepherds. It’s great for retelling that joyful part of the story together.
The Wise Men
The last page features the three wise men bringing gifts to baby Jesus. Kids can discuss the meaning of each gift and what it represents.
How to Extend the Activity
These coloring sheets can easily turn into a full lesson or a week’s worth of themed learning fun. Here are a few activities that go perfectly with them:
- Christmas Drawing Prompts: Let kids create their own scenes that accompany the Nativity story.
- Fun Christmas Word Search for Kids: Add a quick literacy activity to help build vocabulary and spelling skills.
- Story Retelling Activity: Have them cut and arrange each page in order to retell the nativity story.
- Family Storytime: Read the nativity story aloud together as they color.
