Fascinating Facts About Jellyfish
Jellyfish are more than just blob-like creatures floating in the sea. They’re ancient, mesmerizing, and surprisingly complex.
- They’re older than dinosaurs. Jellyfish have been around for more than 500 million years, making them some of the oldest animals on Earth. Fossil evidence even shows they existed before trees.
- They don’t have brains. Instead of a brain, jellyfish use a simple set of nerves to sense their surroundings. They can still detect light, feel touch, and respond to changes in the water.
- Some jellyfish glow in the dark. Certain species have a natural glow called bioluminescence. This light helps them attract prey or scare off predators in the deep sea.
