Fascinating Flower Facts for Curious Kids

Flowers aren’t just pretty to look at—they’re packed with science and surprises. Here are a few cool facts your kindergartner will love:

  • Some flowers can track the sun across the sky throughout the day. This is called heliotropism.
  • The largest flower in the world, the Rafflesia arnoldii, can grow over three feet wide and smells like rotting meat.
  • Certain flowers, like the evening primrose, bloom only at night and attract nocturnal pollinators.

My Favorite Flower Books for Kindergarten

One of the best ways to introduce flower vocabulary and ideas is through stories. These books help kids visualize what they’re learning in a relaxed and enjoyable way.

How to make learning about flowers engaging for early learners?

Keep it hands-on and full of exploration. Let your child take a close look at real flowers—touch the petals, examine the stem, and even dig in the dirt to plant their own seeds.

I’ve found that when we connect these real-world experiences with printable worksheets like these, it not only keeps my kids interested but helps the information stick. They love talking about the flowers they’ve seen while tracing or labeling them on paper, and that kind of connection makes learning feel like play.

Here’s what I like to keep nearby when we use these worksheets:

I have the HP printer 8710, but it’s not available anymore. It’s been running well for years now. Look for another HP Instant Ink-ready printer so that you can use their program to send you ink cartridges whenever your printer gets low on ink.

What’s included in the flower-themed printable pages?

Parts of a Flower

This page walks your child through tracing the names of each flower part. It’s great for introducing the structure of a flower in a gentle, visual way.

Label the Parts

Using a word bank, your child can practice identifying and labeling the different parts of a flower. We used a real daisy from our yard to make this one extra fun.

What’s in My Garden?

This handwriting page includes the words flowers, gloves, and tools for your child to trace and write. It’s perfect for building garden-related vocabulary while practicing penmanship.

Coloring Page

Kids can color a scene with three children planting in a flower bed. Mine always get creative with this one, giving each kid a name and telling stories as they color.

Tracing Practice

This final page reinforces handwriting by having kids trace and write simple flower words. I love how this one ties the whole pack together with repetition in a fun way.
