Why kids should learn about fire safety?
Even though they’re still small, kids can learn basic rules that keep them safe during a fire. It gives them a sense of confidence when they know what to do.
- Understanding safe vs unsafe items: Kids need to be able to spot things like matches or lighters and know not to touch them.
- Knowing emergency helpers: When they see a firefighter, they understand this person is here to help.
- Learning what to do: Even basic steps like “stop, drop, and roll” or “get out, stay out” can stick with them.
Firefighter Book Recommendations
If you’re looking for read-alouds, I always include firefighter picture books to match the worksheets. They add context and keep the topic interesting.

Skills your kids will build with these Preschool Fire Safety Printables
These printables cover a good mix of fine motor work and early learning concepts. Here are a few things they’ll be practicing:
- Tracing and handwriting: The writing pages let kids trace simple fire safety words like “firefighter” and “extinguisher” to build pencil control and word recognition.
- Matching and categorizing: One worksheet asks them to match tools to names and decide what’s safe or not. It’s a great way to practice visual discrimination.
- Coloring and cutting: Color the flame or cut and sort safe/unsafe items for hands-on fun that still works those scissor skills.
Engaging Community Helpers Printable Packs
If you’re working on a full unit, I’ve also created pretend play packs for other community roles. These are great for kids who love imaginative play and need something more open-ended.

What’s included in the fire safety activity pages?
I am a firefighter
This coloring page has a fire truck, a firefighter, and three kids. It includes the sentence “I am a firefighter” in dotted lines for tracing.
Trace It
Kids trace along spiral paths to help different fire-related items, like an extinguisher or hydrant, reach the flames. This page is great for pencil control and early logic.
Firefighter Tools
Learners match five tools to their names: bucket, extinguisher, hydrant, smoke detector, and alarm bell. They can trace the words and color each picture, too.
Color the Fire
A large fire shape filled with circles to color using dot markers or regular crayons. This is great for young learners who aren’t ready for more structured work yet.
What’s Safe and Not Safe?
Kids cut out images and sort them into safe and unsafe columns. It’s a practical page for teaching about real-world dangers.
