If your kids are like mine, they may be obsessed with poop. Why not embrace it and discuss how our body digests food? Grab these digestive system worksheets for kids here.

Because who isn’t interested in the human body? It’s bloody, squishy, and gross; kids will love it.

We eat food and drink water daily; the first system we jump into is the digestive system. Of course, this can lead to many jokes about the exit point of food, but I’ll leave that up to you.

We laugh and joke, and the kids are particularly interested in learning about where poop is stored. Who would have known? Ha! These digestive system worksheets for kids will take you through the journey that food makes through your body.

My only complaint is that the images could be more accurate. The small intestines look very short when they are very long and piled up. Other than that, these printables are a great way to teach your little ones about their digestive systems.

Visual learning is just so much fun. While I love sitting and getting ready for the kids and working with them, I also really enjoy using these worksheets to help them focus on what we’re talking about.

And from how well they engage with them, they also appreciate the visual learning. They get to see the human body and label the parts, and we also get to sit together and talk about it.

A big component of learning is also ensuring discussion. There have been so many times when we’ve worked through a worksheet or a pack of worksheets and then talked about the topic at hand and how it relates to our everyday lives.

That’s worksheet learning paired up with practical knowledge, too!

Use one of the fantastic human body books to explore the human body in color and see how each system works together.

Read the books together and then talk about what you’ve read. You can easily use the information on the pages to dig deeper into topics.

There are colored pictures for labeling and then line pictures for coloring in. They also come in both sexes, so you can choose to use a female or a male. I know my kids identify with their sex, so they’d prefer to use that image instead.

You can use the books to help you figure out where the digestive system organs are also located.

What does the digestive system do?

The digestive system is responsible for breaking down food to take its energy and convert it into energy that the body can use.

Think of the digestive system as one long tube. Food goes through the mouth, and waste products come out the other end.

Mouth

The digestion of food starts in the mouth. Our mouth begins to water or fill with saliva to moisten the food we chew. The food is broken down into smaller pieces by our teeth.

Esophagus

The food travels from the mouth down to the stomach through the esophagus.

Stomach

The stomach’s acid breaks down the food further. Our stomachs have three parts: cardiac, fundus, and pyloric.

Small Intestines

The small intestines are the longest part of the digestive tract. Here, food is broken down chemically so nutrients may be extracted into the bloodstream and carried to where needed.

Large Intestines

The large intestines get the waste materials and remove any water to turn the food waste into feces.

Rectum

Once the water is removed, the feces is stored in the rectum until it can be expelled from the body.

From the time it takes to eat your food and travel through your body to come out as waste, it takes 24 hours.

  1. I love your printables for the systems of the body, but there are no answer keys to them. (The digestive track specifically.). Can you include a cheat sheet for parents with the answers filled in for the cut and paste part? For example, I have no idea where the rectum is vs the anus.

    1. I’m working on adding the answer keys, will update the post once I do.

  2. Do you have an answer key for these sheets?
