Three Interesting Facts About Beaches
- Beaches are made of tiny pieces of rocks, shells, and coral that have been broken down over time by waves and wind.
- Some beaches have black, green, or even pink sand because of different minerals and volcanic activity.
- The shape and size of a beach can change every day due to tides and weather.

Making the Beach-Themed Sensory Activity
The first time I made this tray, I wasn’t sure how it would go. I poured in the sand, added the stones and shells, and stood back. Before I could even call out, my kids were already digging in with their fingers and scoops.
They used the tongs to pick up shells, made pretend beach scenes with the umbrellas, and even sorted the stones by color. It was simple but held their attention longer than I expected. I ended up refilling the tray the next day because they asked for it again.
We’ve used it both inside on a rainy afternoon and outside on a sunny day. No matter where we set it up, this summer sensory science tray brings a little bit of beach magic into our home.
