This is really up to you and your house rules and thoughts. It is a good idea to see if the kids can read some every day, so reading 20-30 minutes is a great goal to set for the kids and family.

What are fun ways to get the kids to read more?
If you have a child who doesn’t seem to enjoy reading, there are a few things that you can do. Make sure that you take the time to talk to them first and find out the type of books that they’re interested in reading.
Once you understand what they want to read, then make a plan on how they’re going to read more.
One way to get them reading more is to make a family reading plan! Have everyone in the family sit together in the room and read together for 15 minutes per day. If there is something in the book that everyone wants to discuss, then discuss it and make it a fun way to communicate.
You can also pick a family book and have everyone read it together. This is a great way to complete books together in a manner that is enjoyable for all.

Is there a way to combine reading and movies?
You know the sayings, right? The books are always better than the movies – but who says that has to be the popular answer?
If you have a book that you think is a TV show or a movie, let the kids see and read it and then decide on their own. Or, for even more fun options, have them read the book and then create their own TV show or movie based on that.
This is the perfect way to have them be creative while having fun simultaneously! Once they find a genre of books that they love to read, you’ll be amazed at how they want to start doing more creative things moving forward.
One good book is enough to launch them into reading more good books!
