Cool Shark Facts You Probably Didn’t Know
Sharks aren’t just fierce swimmers with sharp teeth. They have fascinating features that keep surprising us. These are a few of the shark facts that really caught our attention:
- Some sharks glow in the dark. The lantern shark has bioluminescent organs that make it glow in deep waters, which helps it hide from predators or sneak up on prey.
- Sharks don’t have bones. Instead of a bony skeleton, sharks are made up of cartilage—the same stuff in your nose and ears—making them flexible and fast in the water.
- Shark teeth never stop growing. Great whites can lose thousands of teeth in their lifetimes, and they always have a new one ready to replace the old one.

Why should kids learn about sharks?
Learning about sharks goes beyond curiosity. It builds awareness, inspires conservation, and fuels scientific thinking. Here’s why I think every young learner should take time for shark studies:
- Sharks are misunderstood. Helping kids see them as more than scary ocean dwellers can shift their perspective on marine life.
- Sharks are a gateway to ocean science. One lesson often leads to questions about coral reefs, underwater volcanoes, and animal habitats.
- It connects science and literacy. Reading shark facts, writing fun riddles, and drawing their favorite species boosts their curiosity and creativity.

What Skills Will Kids Practice?
This printable does more than teach shark facts. It taps into a bunch of learning skills in a fun, no-pressure way.
- Reading comprehension. Between riddles and fact cards, kids practice pulling key information from short texts in a fun way.
- Critical thinking. Matching puzzle pieces, solving clues, and writing down fun facts all challenge kids to think and recall what they’ve learned.
- Fine motor development. Cutting, gluing, drawing, and coloring give them a reason to stay focused and use those small hand muscles.
Recommended Shark Toys
If you want to round out your shark unit, some themed toys can further the fun. We’ve used a few ourselves to act out shark behavior or for ocean-themed play.

Supplies You’ll Need for the Shark Activity Pages
You don’t need anything fancy to get started—just the basics you likely already have on hand.
- Printer (I have this one)
- Paper
- Pencil
- Crayons
- Scissors
- Glue
I have the HP printer 8710, but it’s not available anymore. It’s been running well for years now. Look for another HP Instant Ink-ready printer so that you can use their program to send you ink cartridges whenever your printer gets low on ink.
What’s included in the fun and easy shark printables?
