Halloween Activity Sheets

Young Learners Science Club

Halloween is such a fun season, and I always look forward to bringing in a mix of learning and play. That’s why I created these Halloween Activity Sheets for kids in grades 1 to 3. They’re simple enough for younger learners but still engaging for kids who like a bit of a challenge.

If you’ve seen my list of fun Halloween printables for kids, you already know how much I enjoy creating resources that combine skills with holiday fun. These worksheets are perfect for a quiet afternoon at home or even as part of a themed school week.

You’ll see what’s included, the skills your kids can develop, and ways to make the activities even more engaging. Read on and you’ll definitely want to add this set to your Halloween lessons.

How to make learning fun with a Halloween theme?

Bringing a seasonal theme into schoolwork helps keep kids motivated while still working on important skills. Here are a few ways to make it exciting:

  • Word puzzles with a twist: Kids love the challenge of finding spooky words in a word search or crossword.
  • Creative drawing prompts: Letting them design costumes keeps the activity both artistic and educational.
  • Storytelling opportunities: Writing prompts about Halloween night spark imagination while practicing sentence building.
  • Hands-on memory building: Worksheets that include personal reflection (like favorite candies or where they went trick-or-treating) make learning more meaningful.

Adding themed reading is one of the best ways to make the season even more engaging. I’ve always found that pairing worksheets with seasonal books creates a well-rounded learning experience that sticks.

Skills kids can learn from this Halloween Printable

These worksheets may seem like play, but they also build valuable skills.

  • Vocabulary practice: The crossword and word search strengthen spelling and recognition of themed words. My kids used to race each other to see who could finish first, which kept them motivated.
  • Problem-solving: The code breaker page challenges kids to think critically as they match symbols to letters. It’s a fun way to sneak in logic work.
  • Writing and creativity: The costume and memory sheets encourage sentence writing and personal expression. When my daughter was younger, she loved sharing what she planned to wear and always added extra details.

If you’d like to keep the seasonal learning going beyond Halloween, I suggest adding a couple of fall-themed packs. These are easy to bring into your daily lessons and keep the theme running smoothly into November.

Supplies needed for the activities

You don’t need much to get started with this set, but here are a few suggestions to have on hand:

I have the HP printer 8710, but it’s no longer available. It’s been running well for years now. Consider another HP Instant Ink-ready printer so that you can use their program to send you ink cartridges whenever your printer gets low on ink.

Sometimes adding a few seasonal toys can help reinforce what they’re learning. It keeps the atmosphere playful while sneaking in learning time.

What’s included in the Halloween Worksheets?

Halloween Word Search

Kids will search for spooky words like “bat,” “pumpkin,” and “skeleton.” It’s a great way to practice spelling and attention to detail.

Halloween Crossword

This puzzle utilizes pictures as clues, making it accessible even for early readers. The challenge is just right for elementary-aged kids.

Halloween Code Breaker

Symbols stand in for letters, and kids have to decode each word. This one was always a hit in my house because it felt like solving a secret message.

My Halloween Costume

Children can draw and write about what they want to dress up as. It’s a creative mix of art and writing practice.

My Halloween Memories

This page allows them to record their favorite parts of Halloween, from candy to activities. It also provides space for drawing or pasting a photo, making it a keepsake as well as a worksheet.

How to Extend the Halloween Activity

You can keep the fun going by connecting these worksheets to other themed activities:

  • Halloween Handwriting Worksheets: A great way to reinforce penmanship alongside the word puzzles.
  • Halloween Chemistry Experiments: Add a hands-on science twist to your homeschool day with themed experiments.
  • Pumpkin Crafts: Have kids create their own paper pumpkins to decorate after finishing their worksheets.
  • Themed reading and writing: Let them create a short spooky story to share with the family after working through the printables.
