Why is it important to brush your teeth?
It’s easy to forget why brushing is so important, but our kids must understand it’s more than just making their teeth look nice. Every time we eat, tiny bits of food get stuck on our teeth; if we don’t brush them away, they become plaque.
Plaque can cause cavities, and we don’t want that. Brushing helps remove all that stuff and keeps their teeth clean and healthy.
When my kids brush their teeth, I remind them it’s like cleaning their teeth from all the tiny bits of food that can hurt them. I make it fun by telling them their toothbrush is like a superhero fighting off the bad stuff, and that always gets them excited. It’s so important that they get into the habit early so they can keep their teeth strong and smiley for years to come.
Recommended Dental Health Books
I’ve always loved reading books with my kids, especially when it comes to learning about things like dental health. Instead of dreading brushing time, they were excited to see the characters in the book brushing and taking care of their teeth.
It made such a difference, and now, we keep a few of our favorite books close by to read before bed. It’s a fun way to help remind you about brushing every day.

Oral Health Tips for Moms
As parents, we get to set the example and make brushing a part of the daily routine. I remember when my kids were little, I’d brush my teeth alongside them so they could see me doing it, too. It helped them understand that brushing is just something we do, like washing our hands. The more we do it together, the more they learn.
It’s also important to remind them that brushing alone isn’t enough. We also need to teach them about healthy snacks. I try to ensure their snacks and drinks help their teeth stay strong. We’ll have lots of fun with fruit and veggies instead of too many sugary treats.
Plus, I always check in to make sure they’ve brushed all the way around; sometimes, they need a little reminder.

How often should kids brush?
I find that sticking to a regular brushing schedule works wonders. We always brush after breakfast and before bed, and that routine is key to making sure it gets done.
Kids thrive on consistency, so I make sure it’s a part of their day, and they know it’s coming. It’s like brushing is a part of their daily checklist, just like putting on their shoes!
Sometimes, I’ll also use a timer or play a favorite song while we brush to make it feel more like a fun game. I let my kids pick out their own toothbrushes or toothpaste, which makes them feel like they’re in charge, too.
It’s all about keeping it fun so they grow up with healthy habits.
