Antarctica Animals Coloring Pages
When the winter blues hit hard, we like to mix things up with themed activities that still feel like school. These Antarctica Animals Coloring Pages are one of those easy, no-prep printables I keep on hand when I want my kids to learn and relax. These coloring sheets are simple, low-stress, and still sneak in a bit of science.
If you’re working your way through our other winter-themed resources, make sure you grab my full list of Winter Printables for Kids. We love rotating these in throughout December and January when the cold weather keeps us inside.
Here’s what’s in the printable, how to use it, and where to go next if you want to keep the Antarctica theme going. It’s an easy starting point for kids in grades 1 to 3 to learn about polar wildlife.

Why do kids need to learn about Antarctica’s animals?
Learning about Antarctic wildlife is a great way to introduce your kids to extreme habitats and how animals adapt to cold environments. It also helps kids understand geography, biology, and the impact of climate on ecosystems.
- Penguins aren’t the only animals there: Seals, orcas, and other sea life thrive in this region too.
- It opens the door to climate discussions: Antarctica is often used as a reference point when teaching about global warming.
- Kids love animals: It’s an easy way to get them engaged in science topics.
- It’s different from Arctic animals: Comparing the two helps with map skills and scientific classification.
- Adaptations are fascinating: The fur, fat, and behaviors of these creatures are perfect examples of survival skills.
Recommended Antarctica Books
I always recommend pairing printables with a few nonfiction and fiction picture books. They give the animals more personality and offer helpful facts in a visual way that kids can connect with.

- Weather and climate: Talk about temperatures, seasons, and what makes the continent unique.
- Ecosystems: Food chains and how animals survive together can be tied into these pages.
My recommended winter printable packs
These are perfect if you need other printables to fill in your winter homeschool schedule. We use these when we want to stick with the seasonal theme but still hit math and logic skills.

Supplies Needed for this Polar Animal Worksheet
You don’t need much, and you likely already have it all. Here’s what I suggest:
- Printer (I have this one)
- Paper
- Crayons or colored pencils
I have the HP printer 8710, but it’s no longer available. It’s been running well for years now. Consider another HP Instant Ink-ready printer so that you can use their program to send you ink cartridges whenever your printer gets low on ink.
What’s included in the Antarctic animals coloring sheets?
Explore the Antarctic Wildlife
This sheet features a full-scene coloring page with multiple animals: penguins, seals, and an orca swimming among the ice. There’s also a traceable sentence at the bottom: “Explore the Antarctic Wildlife.”
Animals on Ice
This page shows an orca, seals, and a lone penguin standing on an ice floe with mountains in the background. It’s great for scene-based coloring and identifying animals by location.
Penguin Party
This one is all about the penguins. Seven different penguins gather on an iceberg with a whale nearby. It’s perfect for talking about animal groups and body features.
Seal Pals
This page features a group of seals lounging on floating ice. Snowflakes and mountain peaks decorate the background. It’s a fun page for talking about seal types and their icy habitat.
Penguin Families
Three pairs of penguins stand on ice chunks with snowy mountains behind them. This one is good for comparing sizes, shapes, and social behavior in animals.
Ways to extend the activity
If your kids want to keep going after coloring, there are lots of ways to add more learning.
- Antarctica Books: Use this book list to read more about the continent and its wildlife.
- Animal Fact Worksheets: Try my Antarctic Animals Worksheets to reinforce vocabulary and concepts.
- Crafts: Make penguins from paper plates or seals out of modeling clay for some creative fun.
- Science videos: Watch short clips of penguins or whales in the wild to bring the pages to life.

These Antarctica Animals activity pages are a simple way to bring the frozen world into your lesson without complicating it.
My kids used to love themed coloring sheets when they were younger, and these would have fit perfectly into our early science units. If you’re teaching first through third grade, these are a great fit.
