5 Stress Relievers for Homeschool Moms

As a homeschool mom you wear many hats and balance countless plates throughout each day. You are a wife, mother, teacher, housekeeper, chef and baker on any given day. Time to yourself is very precious and limited, so you must plan it out wisely, What is a homeschool mom to do to relieve stress? Often we’re drawn to keep on with things around the home when we’re given a bit of peace and quiet. It is hard to leave the tasks behind because they get done so much quicker when distractions aren’t popping up every few moments. Yet, at times a homeschool mom needs something more than peace and quiet while folding laundry.

Take a nap As a child we hated them, but sleep is often one of the things that homeschool moms give up to make sure everything gets done. When we give up too much sleep we can become more irritable and stressed than we normally would be. Taking a nap may be just what you need to be stress free! Read a book More often than not the only reading a homeschool mom does is for her kids, whether it be in storybook, textbook or teacher manual form. Reading quality literature can be very relaxing as it frees our mind from worrying about tasks that need our attention. Take a walk Walking with the kids in tow is not always a pleasant or peaceful experience because they require our attention throughout the duration of the walk. Grabbing a cup of hot tea (or coffee) and taking a stroll in the fresh air where your mind can just be still is a great way for a homeschool mom to de-stress. Color Yes, it is a childhood pastime, but it is so peaceful! Maybe one of the reasons we, as adults, find coloring enjoyable is because it brings us back to our childhood, when we were carefree. Try playing quiet classical music, sipping hot tea and coloring a beautiful picture the next time you find yourself stressing. Take a bubble bath or hot shower It doesn’t matter if you’ve already had one today. If you find yourself stressed and you need a break, put the kids in their rooms to read (or cribs to rest) or turn on the TV (I promise it won’t ruin them) and head to the bathroom for some alone time. This is one of the easiest ways for a homeschool mom to de-stress if the kids are at home. Take time to make sure that the kids are safe, well entertained or asleep before turning on the water though, there’s nothing worse than having to get out of a relaxing shower/bath before you’re ready. Finding ways to de-stress as a homeschool mom isn’t hard to do if these suggestions don’t appeal to you. Simply take a few moments and write down 5 things that you enjoy doing, then determine how you can find time to do 1-2 of them a month. It may require that your husband, a family member or a friend watch your kids for an hour and that’s ok. Upon your return, you’ll be a de-stressed, better mom! Taking time to renew and refresh yourself is key to living a less stressed life. Your marriage, family, friendships, homeschool and home will grow and function better when you take the time to de-stress yourself.
