How do I make reading fun?

There are so many ways that you can make reading fun. It’s all about the child in how you want to make it happen.

The thing to remember about introducing new books and reading to a child is to let them go at their pace and pick their own books.

A lot of kids will have memories growing up of being forced to read books that they didn’t want to read – and this developed them to not enjoy reading. Don’t let this be the case.

While they might be assigned various books throughout their years at school, being able to pick books to read at home that they love and enjoy is a great way to get them to actually want to read – and have fun doing so.

How many minutes per day should a child read?

While there is no set limit on the amount of time that a child should read daily, 30 minutes is a good amount of time to aim for.

You can help your child get excited about reading by setting aside a special reading time daily. This will help them look forward to reading more daily and also give them a basis for when reading time should start.

Once you look at a section of time as a reading section, the kids won’t view it as “work” and will start to view it as more fun. Then, when they don’t feel timed, they’ll be more likely to get lost in a book and not actually worried about the time passing at all!
