What if my Spouse is Against Homeschooling?

Have you thought about homeschooling but your spouse is against it? Do you think homeschooling would benefit your children but are having trouble convincing your spouse? Perhaps they need some time to do some research themselves. You would never make a huge decision without discussing it with your partner first, however, maybe the can be persuaded to see your side.

• Give him books or audiobooks on homeschooling
• Attend a local homeschool group event to meet other homeschooling parents and children
• Attend a homeschool conference and listen to homeschool lectures
• Give them time to think it over

They may have a preconceived idea of homeschooling that they have based their decision on but don’t give up. Perhaps your spouse may allow you to homeschool for a set amount of time in order to see if it works for your family ie. a year, and then reevaluate at that point. Homeschooling is a lifestyle and very hard to implement if both spouses are not on board. Make a plan and outline your goals, that way they can see what it is you hope to achieve by homeschooling. You may want to do some kind of standardized testing at the beginning of the year and then at the end to see what improvements or difficulties you’ve had so that you can work on them.
