Who Is This Printable For?

These worksheets are designed for early elementary students in grades 1-3.

You can use the complete set during your October lessons or choose individual pages depending on your child’s interests and what you’re working on that day.

Why Use Halloween Worksheets?

Halloween worksheets give kids a seasonal way to revisit familiar academic skills.

The theme can make regular reading, writing, and math practice feel a little different while still keeping the activities focused on skills they’re already developing.

Add a few Halloween picture books or early chapter books to your reading time so kids can explore funny monsters, spooky settings, costumes, and seasonal stories alongside their other activities.

What Will Kids Learn?

These Halloween worksheets give early elementary students practice across several subjects.

  • Reading comprehension: Read riddles and clues carefully to determine an answer.
  • Vocabulary: Match Halloween clues with words such as witch, spider, vampire, mummy, and costumes.
  • Writing: Complete seasonal sentence starters and express personal ideas.
  • Math: Solve addition and subtraction word problems using Halloween candy, pumpkins, spiders, and treats.
  • Creative thinking: Draw characters and design an original Halloween costume.
  • Problem solving: Use details from each question or riddle to decide what information is important.

What Supplies Are Needed?

You only need a few basic supplies for these worksheets.

I have the HP printer 8710, but it’s no longer available. It’s been running well for years now. Consider another HP Instant Ink-ready printer so that you can use their program to send you ink cartridges whenever your printer gets low on ink.

What Is Included?

The printable includes five student activity pages followed by three answer keys for the riddle, vocabulary, and math activities.

Who Am I?

Kids read five Halloween riddles and figure out which character each one describes. After writing the answer, they can draw the character in the box beside the riddle.

The clues lead to a witch, ghost, vampire, skeleton, and werewolf.

Guess the Monster’s Word

Children use a six-word bank to answer Halloween questions about costumes, candy bags, vampires, witches, mummies, and spiders.

This page gives them practice reading clues and selecting the word that best matches each description.

Halloween Finish the Sentence

Kids complete five open-ended writing prompts about Halloween candy, costumes, spooky things, Halloween night, and activities they enjoy with friends.

The lined spaces give them room to turn each prompt into a short response or longer sentence.

The Halloween Candy Shop

This page includes five Halloween-themed math word problems using addition and subtraction.

Kids work with quantities involving candies, pumpkins, spiders, and treats, with numbers reaching up to 16 in the included problems.

My Halloween Costume

Children get a large blank space to create and draw their own Halloween costume design.

It works well as a creative break after the more structured reading, writing, and math activities.

Answer Keys

The final three pages include completed answers for Who Am I?, Guess the Monster’s Word, and The Halloween Candy Shop.

How Can You Extend the Activity?

Continue the Halloween theme with a few activities that give kids a different way to use what they’re learning.

  • Try the Halloween Word Search Printable for more seasonal word practice.
  • Add one of these Halloween Chemistry Experiments for a hands-on science activity.
  • Turn the “Who Am I?” activity into a riddle game by having kids create their own clues for another Halloween character.
  • Have kids turn their costume drawing into a short description explaining the colors, materials, and details they chose.

How Can You Keep Learning Going?

Add more seasonal printables that give kids opportunities to work on handwriting, letter recognition, coloring, and fine motor skills. Using a mix of activities can keep October lessons varied while still giving children practice with familiar skills.
