Spanish for You! Curriculum Review: Is it Worth it?

Young Learners Science Club

If you’ve been looking for a homeschool Spanish curriculum that’s easy to use, flexible, and doesn’t require parents to already know Spanish, I recently had the chance to review the Spanish for You! Mi Vida Homeschool Package along with the Grade 7–8 workbook, and I wanted to share what stood out to me.

Spanish can feel intimidating to teach at home, especially if you didn’t learn it yourself. What I appreciated right away about this program is that it was clearly designed with homeschool families in mind. Everything is organized, laid out step-by-step, and easy to follow.

What Is Spanish for You!?

Spanish for You! is a homeschool Spanish curriculum created for different grade levels and learning stages. The courses are theme-based, and families can move through them in any order. The Mi Vida course focuses on vocabulary and conversations related to everyday life.

The curriculum includes:

  • Daily lesson plans
  • Worksheets
  • Flashcards
  • Audio recordings
  • Games and hands-on activities
  • Online resources
  • Activity pictures

Everything is included in a single package, making planning much easier for busy homeschool parents.

My First Impressions

One of the first things I felt once I got the entire set of curriculum was overwhelm. Only because there were many files to download and I received the physical books as well. But once I went through the instructions and created folders for everything, I realized I had PDF copies of the workbook materials, so some of it wasn’t needed at the moment. But it would be handy if I were going to use it again with another child.

The audio recordings are a must if you don’t know Spanish yourself. In our case, we were going in with no Spanish experience, so we needed everything to help us succeed.

Once I realized that everything was laid out in the workbook, then it was smooth sailing going forward and my child could work on this independently. She doesn’t like for me to hover over her to practice on her own.

The lessons are structured clearly, and there’s no guesswork about what to do each day. Even parents with no Spanish background can comfortably work through the material alongside their child.

I also liked that the lessons don’t rely heavily on screens. While audio resources are included, much of the learning happens through worksheets, games, and interactive activities instead of endless online exercises.

Reviewing the Mi Vida Homeschool Package

The Mi Vida package is designed as a full-year course, and I could see how it would work well for families teaching multiple children together. Spanish for You! specifically mentions that their courses are multi-age friendly, which is a huge plus for homeschool households with siblings close in age.

It’s meant to be used 4 days per week, taking 10 – 20 minutes a day. I think that’s a manageable timeframe to work on it rather than having long drawn out lessons. So they get in the habit of practicing what they’ve learned.

The curriculum gradually introduces vocabulary and grammar concepts in manageable steps. Instead of overwhelming students with memorization, lessons build naturally with built-in review.

I appreciated the balance between:

  • Listening practice
  • Speaking activities
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Grammar work

The audio recordings were especially helpful for pronunciation practice. Since not every homeschool parent feels confident teaching pronunciation, having audio support available makes a big difference.

Another standout feature is the number of activities included. The curriculum offers over 80 games and activities to reinforce learning in different ways. They are optional, but if your child enjoys games, this would be great for them. My daughter didn’t care for them.

There are flashcards available on the back of the workbook, but my daughter did not find them as appealing, so being creative herself and quite artsy herself, she decided to make her own. This was great for her to work on the vocabulary, and being a visual learner, this helped her learn the new words more easily, I think.

The Grade 7-8 Workbook

I reviewed the Grade 7-8 workbook, which is geared toward older students and more independent learning.

The workbook felt appropriately challenging without being overwhelming. I liked that students are encouraged to actively use the language instead of simply memorizing vocabulary lists. The exercises support practical language use while continuing to reinforce grammar concepts.

For middle school students preparing for high school Spanish, this level seems like a solid fit. Spanish for You! notes that completing four themed courses is comparable to one year of high school Spanish, and many families use the 7-8 level for high school credit.

The workbook also works well for independent learners. Older students could complete much of the work on their own while still benefiting from occasional parent guidance.

What I Liked Most

Here are a few things that stood out to me during this review:

The lessons are very easy to follow, even if you’ve never taught Spanish before.

Flexible Scheduling – You can adapt the pace to fit your homeschool routine instead of following a rigid schedule. If you want to change the number of days

Interactive Learning – The curriculum includes plenty of hands-on activities and games rather than relying only on worksheets.

Multi-Age Friendly – Families with children in different grades can often successfully combine students.

Reusable Materials – Since the curriculum is designed to be reusable, it can work well for younger siblings later on.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I found the Spanish for You! Mi Vida Homeschool Package to be a well-organized and approachable Spanish curriculum for homeschool families. The combination of structured lessons, audio support, games, and flexible pacing makes it a practical option for teaching Spanish at home.

The Grade 7–8 workbook adds a stronger level of independent work and grammar practice that works especially well for older students preparing for high school language studies.

If you’ve been searching for a homeschool Spanish curriculum that balances structure with flexibility, this one is definitely worth considering.
