How To Make Homemade Bubbles

While you can try other brands of dishwashing soap, I’ve found Dawn to be the best at creating amazing bubbles. You can always try other brands but Dawn is no fail, which is awesome.

Super Bubbles Instructions

As you can tell, there isn’t a ton of directions when it comes to making these bubbles! This is what makes it such a fun and awesome creative play recipe to try!

  1. Add the corn syrup to the warm water. Stir until it is completely dissolved.
  2. Next, gradually add the dishwashing soap and mix well.
  3. If you desire to add color to the bubbles, you may add food coloring. (The bubbles are naturally blue due to the dish soap)

You can also experiment with different amounts of water, soap, and corn syrup to investigate which combination makes the biggest bubbles, the sturdiest, those that float the highest, etc… Don’t forget to have your child write down their hypothesis and the findings as well.

This is not only a fun activity for the kids but it’s the perfect way to have them think outside the box, too. Before you get started on making the bubbles, they can write down their predictions about what they think is going to happen.

Will the mixture be thick? Thin? Will it hold together to make giant bubbles or tiny bubbles? All of these are questions and options that they need to think about or can think about to make their predictions.

Have each kiddo make their own and then talk about their thoughts, too. Then you can take the bubble mixture outside and see who was right in their predictions!

How to Make Super Bubbles

What makes bubbles science? The various parts of the bubble-the air inside, the thin formation of soap that makes your bubble itself, the water evaporation that eventually makes your bubble pop, figuring out how various recipes work.

Isn’t science awesome!? I love making these bubbles because it shows the kids that with just a little bit of creativity and thinking outside the box, they can easily make a fun solution at home that they can play with for hours! This is also a super fun homemade gift idea to share with family and friends as well.

Perfect idea for an outdoor birthday party, family reunion, or just a simple way to save money and have the kids make something on their own.

Now you are going to need a way to blow those bubbles….

How to blow the bubbles once you make them

If you have leftover bubble blowers from a store-bought bottle you are in luck but I think it’s much more fun to make your own. You can use a thicker piece of wire, a metal coat hanger, or our favorite- chenille stems ( Pipe cleaners).

To create a bubble wand I just made a circle on one end and twisted the excess so there was none sticking out, you can make this as small or as large as you like.

Then I just created a small circle on the other end the same way just big enough for a finger to slip through and hold.

Try different materials and shapes to see if it affects the strength of the bubble, the distance it floats, etc…

Dip your wand in and blow!
