How to Create a Daily Homeschool Schedule

Do you have a daily schedule for your child or for yourself? This will help you keep your child on track and this will also help them see what is expected of them for the day. Learn how to create a daily homeschool schedule easily here!

If you’re not sure how to create a daily homeschool schedule, keep reading. You’ll love my homeschool planner printables. All of my printables are easy to use and are meant to help make your days and lives a bit easier as well!

I like writing out my daily schedules because it gives me and my child an idea of his workload for the day. This also eliminates the need to answer the questions, what do I do now/next every 10 minutes from your child. While some may prefer to plan using specific times, this doesn’t work for me, particularly for the younger ages.

Things do get out of whack and then it bothers me when I get off the schedule so I like to use a schedule that lists subjects in the order they should be completed.

How to Create a Daily Homeschool Schedule

Keep in mind that this schedule can easily be tailored to what is going to be a good fit for you and your child. (This is the great part about homeschooling!) So for my first grader this year, this would be his schedule for Monday:

  • Music – 30 min
  • Reading – 30 min
  • Spelling – 10 min
  • Math – 20 min
  • Grammar – 10 min
  • Writing – 15 min
  • Science – 30 min

I didn’t write the time, but I wrote out the subjects and there was a checkbox that he used to mark what he had finished. He loves checking the boxes. I’d print the schedule out onto paper and place it in a sheet protector in his binder. I then write on his schedule with dry erase or wet erase marker. This was easy to wipe away and set up the next day.

Sometimes he’d like it when I put his schedule into our Crayola Dry Erase Board, he likes drawing on it.

If you have activities or plans for the day then a time schedule would be helpful for your child to keep them on track for the day and it also lets them plan ahead.

More Homeschooling Tips

To find out the best way that homeschooling works for your family, it’s also a good idea to understand how your family works. This is a real realization that needs to be addressed.

The great thing about homeschooling is that it does give you the flexibility to figure out and plan your day in a way that will benefit you and the kids, too. Remember that you can always change the schedule, too! Nothing about this schedule is set in stone – at all. If it used to work and is no longer working, assess and redirect.

As you can notice from my daily homeschooling schedule above, I don’t have start times listed out as those tends to vary. Life happens or there just might be days when we start a bit later than other days or go a bit longer, too.

Being flexible and giving yourself grace is a good reminder for all homeschooling parents to have. There is always time in the day to get things done and you can adjust your schedule as needed. You just don’t want to try to make a habit out of changing up your schedule too much.

Being able to pivot is key when things come up during the day, but don’t make it an everyday habit. Here and there is fine but if you have something that is constantly changing up your day, it may be time to look at your daily schedule overall and see if there are things that need to be adjusted long-term so that it doesn’t affect the flow.

  1. I so admire homeshoolers and this resource would be so valuable and a time saver I’m sure. Thanks for sharing with us at #anythinggoes.

  2. I do this with my non-homeschool kids (for homework, chores, and routines like brushing teeth) and it works so well. I wonder when he will be old enough that adding times helps. I haven’t added times for my second grader, but I am considering it.

  3. This is awesome! I’m still on the fence about whether or not to homeschool. (My oldest is only 2, so I have some time to sort it out). I’ve pinned for reference.

  4. Great resource! Thank you for linking up at the Thoughtful Spot Blog Hop! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Thank you so much!! How helpful and thoughtful to share this with us!

    1. You’re welcome, I’m glad it is of use.

  6. This is great! I do basically the same thing, but we use the Love My Schedule system. Itโ€™s a magnetic wet erase schedule that I keep on the fridge. That way I donโ€™t have to print out a new schedule when I want to change it. I also have the chore charts so I can check off their chores as they get done. Their website is LoveMySchedule.com if anyone wants to check it out ๐Ÿ™‚
