Well we’ve hit decimals in our Saxon math book and while it was going good at first, M1 has hit a wall. We have needed to go back and review place values first. I wanted to find some fun games to help motivate M1 while hopefully teaching him about decimals.
I made a place value card for him to put in his memory box. But I think we’re going to make a notebook about decimals and place value. I think it helped with fractions since they are no longer a concern. They were quite painful to get through so I hope this will ease the process.
I gathered up all the free online decimal games that I could find and posted them here for your reference and mine as well.
- IXL – not free but you get to try 10 questions for free
- Mr Nussbaum – Lunch Lady, Death to decimals, Place Value Pirates.
- Abcya – Adding decimals and Fractions to decimals
- Sheppard Software
- Math Play
- Arcademic – Puppy chase, Puppy pull, and Hungry puppies
So we’re taking things slow with Saxon as we do some math notebooking as well.
I’m set on not changing math curriculum this year since there was too much jumping around last year. I thought we’d start Life of Fred Decimals but it was moving too fast for M1 so I think we’ll save it for the summer.
